Long waits on the plane await travellers as airports work out the kinks

As much as any industry, the pandemic threw air travel for a loop — forcing the closure of some airports, turning others into ghost towns for extended periods and crippling some airlines.

This week’s Down to Business looks at the business of flying and parses what’s happening at airports today amid reports of long lines and extended waits.

Guests included Mike McNaney, vice president and chief external affairs officer at YVR, Vancouver Airport Authority; Wesley Lesosky, president of the Air Canada Component of Canadian Union of Public Employees, which represents about 9,500 flight attendants at Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge, and also president of CUPE’s Airline Division, which represents about 15,000 flight attendants at nine Canadian airlines; Barry Rempel, who retired as president and chief executive of Winnipeg Airports Authority in September 2021; and Rian Burger, senior principal and aviation architect at Stantec Inc.
