Even a cursory trip through WallStreetBets and other retail investing social media boards will yield multiple references to phrases like “failures-to-deliver” and “naked shorting” with most of those comments linked to the widely-held theory that short-selling chicanery by hedge funds and other institutional traders is the major reason that stocks like GameStop GME, AMC Entertainment AMC and others remain so volatile.
