President Trump is projected to win Florida

President Donald Trump is projected to win Florida’s 29 electoral votes in his race against Democratic nominee Joe Biden, NBC News reported.

As of 12:46 a.m. ET on Wednesday, Trump was leading with 5.65 million votes, compared to 5.27 million for the former vice president Biden, a margin of 51.2% to 47.8%.

Biden was outpolling Trump by a lower margin in Miami-Dade County, which traditionally goes for Democratic presidential candidates, than his party had hoped for.

Polling averages going into Election Day on Tuesday had indicated a tight presidential race. Trump won Florida by 1.2% in 2016.

Kellyanne Conway, a former senior Trump White House advisor, in an interview Tuesday night with NBC News, said, “We’ve got a long way to go,” but also said “we do like what’s happened in Florida.”

Florida has backed every winning presidential candidate since 1964 except once, in 1992.

The state took center stage in the 2000 election after an intense ballot recount dispute made it all the way to the Supreme Court. Republican George W. Bush ultimately claimed victory in Florida over Democrat Al Gore by a margin of just 0.009% — the closest in any presidential election in U.S. history.
